'Shadow of the Beast' Remake Launch Date Announced, Behind-the-Scenes Video Released

The 1989 side-scrolling platform video game "Shadow of the Beast" is getting a remake exclusively for PlayStation 4 and it won't be long until it comes out. According to a report by Game Spot, developer Heavy Spectrum has already made known the release date of the game for North America and it will be on May 17.

Those who have previously played this game can expect to see some "significant" changes as the small team behind it have worked on it over the past few months to make sure that they will be bringing in a fresh and new gameplay. In a PlayStation Blog post, Heavy Spectrum CEO and Founder Matt Birch detailed that they have "finally reached a critical point in development."

He also revealed that they have made some fine-tuning changes for the battle experience beginning from the top to the bottom to bring forward an optimal response time and a smooth flowing combat just like how it was in the golden age combat action games from the past. And as noted in IGN, they are targeting 60 frames per second.

Heavy Spectrum has also made an effort to create some changes to the protagonist Aarbron as well. They have added some upgrades to allow him to show off the full extent of his abilities. Aside from that, Aarbron is now equipped with some of the "mystic artefacts" that heighten the depth to the gameplay of "Shadow of the Beast." Birch also released a sneak peek of a feature that they have not detailed yet, Aarbron's epic-looking gun.

Slots for pre-order has not been opened yet but Heavy Spectrum teased that those who reserve one will receive an awesome free dynamic theme featuring a brand new original creature created by much-admired artist Roger Dean, who is also the creator of the covers for the original game and its sequel.

A behind-the-scenes video has been released as well showing more of the gameplay, as well as some of the combos and the finishing moves that can be performed throughout the adventure.
