'Shadowhunters' Season 1 News: Katherine McNamara Shares What It's Like to Dye Her Hair Vivid Red
Katherine McNamara is known for her roles on Disney shows, and fans remember her being blonde. When she landed the role on "Shadowhunters" as Clary Fray, she transitioned from being blonde to a very fiery red-head. And it seems like fans are loving the change since McNamara can easily be identified as Clary with the vivid red hair.
According to Madison.com, it was because of Clary's solid number of followers that made McNamara decide to change her hair color. McNamara said that Clary is also defined by her vivid hair color. "She's a very fiery, stubborn at times, individual and that intentional fire comes out in her hair color. We spent several weeks trying to figure out the exact shade," she shares. "It's not a color I would do for any other character. It's specific to this character," McNamara added.
"Shadowhunters" is based on the hit young adult novels of Cassandra Clare, "The Mortal Instruments." The novels were first made into a movie in 2013, but failed to "catch fire," according to the website. The story was then picked up by Freeform, and turned it into a television series. Now that the story is transformed into a TV series, McNamara said that they now have the chance to showcase Clary's development and evolution.

"Shadowhunters" follows the story of an 18-year-old girl, who learned that she is a human-angel hybrid, after her mother, Jocelyn Fray (Maxim Roy), got abducted by a demon. As she tries to rescue her mother with the help of the Shadowhunters, a group who hunts demons, Clary discovers her secret powers that her mother kept hidden from her.
A synopsis was posted on Spoilers Guide for the upcoming episode, and it reads, "With the knowledge that Valentine is alive and on the hunt for The Mortal Cup, the Institute is on high alert. Not wasting any time, Jace jumps into action and figures Clary's memories are the key to finding Jocelyn and The Mortal Cup. Unfortunately, Clary's memories were wiped leaving her without any recollection of this other life that could help her and the team. With only one other option remaining, Jace, Isabelle and a very reluctant Alec take Clary to the City of Bones to face the powerful Silent Brothers. Meanwhile, Luke continues his search for Clary, and Simon tries to come to terms with his best friend's new life."
