Shakira $250M Lawsuit: The Voice Judge Asks Court to Throw Out Ex-Boyfriend's Lawsuit (VIDEO)
Shakira is asking for a $250M lawsuit against her to be thrown out, according to reports Wednesday.
The popular singer is currently the target of a $250 million lawsuit filed by her ex-boyfriend, Antonio de la Rua.
De la Rua, a Argentine lawyer, dated Shakira for more than 10 years, however they separated in 2011 after the singer announced they were breaking up on her personal website. At the time "The Voice" judge explained that the couple were making a "mutual decision to take time apart from our romantic relationship."

She added that "this period of separation" was to be seen as "temporary and as a time of individual growth as we continue to be partners in our business and professional lives."
She also confirmed that de la Rua would continue to oversee her "business and career interests as he has always done."
However, their relationship turned sour and in September 2012 de la Rua, the son of former Argentine president Fernando de la Rua, announced plans that he was to commence legal action against Shakira, claiming he was owed $250 million.
He believes that the amount is due for monetary compensation for his work as her business manager for the long period of time. The claimed amount also included ownership of properties that were jointly held by the couple while they were together.
In November de la Rua filed a lawsuit in California, saying that Shakira should be ordered to pay him $100 million for terminating him as her business manager in 2011.
Shakira's ex claims that he was instrumental in creating the successful brand that has brought the singer international success. However, the singer has claimed that he is not owed anything and that her success was down to herself.
Shakira has moved on with her life after de la Rua, and has since given birth in January to her first child with boyfriend, Barcelona soccer star Gerard Pique
Shakira has filed an affidavit claiming that when she met de la Rua in 2000, "I was already a well-known and recognized artist, and my international career was established and solid."
She has also added that her former boyfriend was just one of many advisors in her career, and that even though he did not possess extensive knowledge of the music industry she employed him because he did not have a job at the time.
Meanwhile, Shakira has also filed a counter lawsuit against de la Rua in the Bahamas, claiming that he "misappropriated" $3 million of her money.
Attorneys for Shakira are confident that she does not owe him anything and that all their business dealings are clearly documented in writing for the court to see.
