'Shameless' Season 8 Spoilers: Ian to Struggle the Most With Monica's Sudden Death
Ian (Cameron Monaghan) is the Gallagher kid who will miss his mother the most in the upcoming season of "Shameless."
Executive producer John Wells recently revealed to Variety the surprising fact regarding Ian's relationship with Monica (Chloe Webb). According to him, out of all of Frank (William H. Macy) and Monica's brood, Ian is the one who will struggle the most in accepting that she is gone. Although Monica was absent in most of Ian's life, he apparently still saw her as someone he could run to when he had problems. There were also times when they bonded and she understood the difficulty of having a bipolar personality because she had it as well.
"Ian is struggling. He's sort of surprised by it, but she was sort of his touchstone, and they were very close at times," Wells said. "It reverberates for Ian throughout the course of the season. The death of a parent, even an estranged parent, sets off a lot of waves. There's a lot of things you can't say that you wish you had said and things you wish had happened that you can't experience now."
Ian's storyline is expected to pick up in season 8. Speculations are rife that his ex-boyfriend Mickey (Noel Fisher) will return. The latter previously escaped from prison and managed to cross the Mexican border. Ian was originally planning to run away with him, but he changed his mind at the last minute. Spoilers indicate that the police will soon knock on Ian's door and will ask questions about Mickey.
Meanwhile, Ian's sister, Fiona (Emmy Rossum), will have to answer her father's probing questions regarding her share of Monica's meth crystals. The promo released reveals the Gallagher family digging up a grave that is allegedly Monica's. Their friends, Kev (Steve Howey), Veronica (Shanola Hampton) and Svetlana (Isidora Goreshter) are also with them. Viewers can remember that Fiona hid the drugs inside her mother's casket. It is possible that Frank wants the crystals to get more money.
"Shameless" season 8 is expected to air on Nov. 5 at 9 p.m. EDT on Showtime.
