'Shameless' Season 8 Spoilers: Mickey Returns for Ian

Mickey (Noel Fisher) may return to win back Ian (Cameron Monaghan) in the next season of "Shameless."

According to recent spoilers, there is a chance that the couple will reunite when Mickey decides to return to the United States and woos Ian again.

Last season, Mickey escaped from prison and asked Ian to run away to Mexico with him. That time, Ian was involved with Trevor (Elliott Fletcher). He eventually decided to leave with Mickey, proving that he still loved his ex-boyfriend.

Close to the Mexican border, however, Ian made a huge decision. He told Mickey to go on without him. Heartsick, Mickey had no choice but to let Ian go. He had to leave or else the police would catch him.

In a December interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Fisher expressed his willingness to return to the Showtime series. According to him, there is still much to explore in Mickey and Ian's storyline. The actor said that as long as Mickey is alive, there is always a chance that he will find his way back to Ian. They have been through a lot. Mickey was Ian's first love and if the latter had not been imprisoned, they would have still been together.

If Mickey does return, it will be interesting to see how Trevor will react to the threat in his relationship with Ian.

"It's left open, and I don't think anything would prevent them from living happily ever after if that's what would be best for the characters. That's the bigger question and what would have to be decided. These characters have known each other and grown up and changed so much because of one another. That's what Shameless does well — it's the story of people exploring themselves and growing and reaching to better themselves over and over again," Fisher said in the interview with THR.

"Shameless" is expected to return to Showtime in 2017.
