'Sharknado 4' Release Date Announced, Subtitle Inspired by 'Star Wars'
Made-for-television disaster film "Sharknado" is getting a fourth run and it's coming out soon. According to a report by IGN, network Syfy has announced already the premiere date of the "Sharknado 4." Followers of the show can catch the first episode on Sunday, July 31 at 8 p.m. ET/PT.
But more than the premiere date, what caught the attention of many is the interesting subtitle of the fourth installment of the franchise. As noted in Comic Book Resources, the title of the film is apparently inspired by the Disney's latest entry in the "Star Wars" saga, which is "The Force Awakens." Syfy named the upcoming show as "Sharknado: The 4th Awakens."
The flick will not have its own version of Storm Troopers though as it will follow after the events of 2015's "Sharknado 3: Oh Hell No!" There will be a time jump of five years which is after the East Coast was ravaged. Since then, the world has been quiet and peaceful with many believing that they are free from the shark-tornado hybrids. But as stated in NME, the bizarre weather will start happening again in places and ways least expected.
Deadline detailed that Ian Ziering will reprise his role as Fin. He will be joined by fellow franchise veterans David Hasselhoff who will play as Gil Shephard and Ryan Newman who will play as Claudia Shephard. Tara Reid will also make a comeback to reprise her role as April Wexler and to announce the outcome of the #AprilLives or #AprilDies social campaign. There will be new faces as well. Variety noted that Gary Busey, Tommy Davidson, Imani Hakim, Cody Linley, Masiela Lusha and Cheryl Tiegs will be joining the cast for the fourth run.
"Sharknado: The 4th Awakens" is produced by The Asylum and is directed by Anthony C. Ferrante from a script by Thunder Levin.
