Shayne Lamas Hospitalized, Not in Coma, After Losing Child at 16 Weeks
Reality star Shayne Lamas is not in a coma, as has been mistakenly reported, but is in stable condition after collapsing and having a miscarriage. Her family has offered thanks to all those who have helped Lamas through her medical emergency and reassure fans that Lamas will soon be up and going.
"We are so grateful that my daughter, Shayne Lamas-Richie, is conscious and stable. She is not in a coma, however she did miscarry the child she was carrying. We are so very grateful to the hospital personnel and the doctors who saved her life last night. Shayne is aware of her condition and that her family and her husband are here with her and love her so much," Lorenzo Lamas, Shayne's father, told People. "She will be remaining in the hospital until her doctors determine that she can be released."
Lamas collapsed in her home on Sunday evening; doctors determined that she was bleeding internally around her uterus and had miscarried the child she was carrying. Media initially reported that she was in a coma after undergoing a medical procedure, but her family has now corrected those assertions.
Lamas is married to Nik Richie, a professional blogger who runs the website TheDirty.com. The couple has one daughter, Press, who is 2. Richie posted a message on his website explaining that he was taking some time off to spend with family.
"I'm going to take some personal days off from the blogging world," Richie wrote. "Unfortunate things happen to good people. I'm not the best person in the world, but I love my wife and my family. Shayne is my good person. She is my support and my smile. I found you and I never want to let you go. We will overcome. Us 3."
Lamas appeared on ABC's "The Bachelor" with Matt Grant, who proposed to her on the season finale. Things did not work out between the two, and she married Richie in 2010.
