'Shazam!' New Cast Update, Spoilers: 'Annabelle: Creation' Star and 'Kingsman' Favorite to Star
Following the announcement that Zachary Levi will play the titular hero in the upcoming movie "Shazam!," more casting news has emerged.
According to Variety, "Annabelle: Creation" star Grace Fulton is reportedly in talks to play as one of the friends of Billy Batson, a boy who can transform into the adult superhero Captain Marvel when he shouts the magic word "Shazam!"
Fulton played the role of Carol in "Annabelle: Creation," which was directed by David F. Sandberg and produced by Peter Safran, both of whom are taking on the same roles in the "Shazam!" film as well.
Prior to news about Fulton's casting, it was reported that "Kingsman: The Golden Circle" star Mark Strong will be part of the movie as the big villain.
Strong, who is not new in the world of comic book films having starred in the "Green Lantern" film, is set to play the role of Doctor Sivana, who is known in the comics as Captain Marvel's arch-rival and most frequent foe.
Sivana is considered the world's wickedest scientist with his genius-level intellect and skills as a manipulator and strategist. The character's co-creator C.C. Beck said that Sivana's name is the result of combining the name of Indian god Siva and the word nirvana.
With Sivana as the big bad in "Shazam!," fans are hoping that his family including his ex-wife Venus and children Magnificus, Beautia, Georgia and Thaddeus Jr. will be part of the film as well since they are usually the ones who help him with his evil schemes.
Captain Marvel, on the other hand, has the same powers and abilities as ancient world gods and historical figures Solomon, Hercules, Atlas, Zeus, Achilles and Mercury. The first letters in their names make up the magic word "Shazam."
"Shazam!" is expected to hit the cinemas in 2019 with the filming set to begin February next year.
