Sheen Changes Name? Charlie Sheen Reverts Back to Carlos Estevez for Machete Kills (VIDEO)

Charlie Sheen has changed his name back to Carlos Estevez for the credits in his upcoming movie "Machete Kills."

Sheen, who was given the name Carlos Estevez at birth, famously changed his name to Charlie when he was a child to avoid any confusion with his uncle, who was also called Carlos.

Charlie's father, best known as Martin Sheen, was also in fact born Ramon Antonio Gerardo Estevez but took the stage name Sheen when he began his acting career. He did not legally change his name, and his four children all received the surname Estevez.

However, Charlie decided to also follow his father's stage surname when his career kicked off, and he became widely known as Charlie Sheen.

Martin Sheen has spoken to James Lipton on an episode of "Inside the Actor's Studio," where he said: "I started using Sheen, I thought I'd give it a try, and before I knew it, I started making a living with it and then it was too late."

Martin's name change became an issue of tension in his family, with many bewildered and even offended that he would change his name. Martin explained: "One of my great regrets is that I didn't keep my name as it was given to me. I knew it bothered my dad," according to The Huffington Post.

Charlie Sheen has two older brothers, Emilio Estevez and Ramon Estevez, and a younger sister, Renée Estevez - all actors. Emilio of course is famous in his own right, and has starred in numerous films, but he has always used his real name and kept Estevez.

Now it appears as though Charlie Sheen has decided to go back to his roots and will promote himself with his birth-given name, at least for Robert Rodriguez's film "Machete Kills."

The cast of "Machete Kills" includes Sofia Sofia Vergara, Mel Gibson, Vanessa Hudgens, Cuba Gooding Jr. and Lady Gaga. Danny Trejo playing the title role.

Charlie Sheen will play the President of the United States.

"Machete Kills" will be released on September 2013.
