'Shenmue 1 and 2' Double Pack Rumored to Arrive on PS4, Xbox One This Year

Yu Suzuki's open-world action-adventure video games "Shenmue 1 and 2" may be coming to the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One soon.

According to Siliconera, Czech Republic and Slovakian retailers may have jumped the gun by including the SEGA games in their lists. Four online shops - Alza, Heureka, GetGame, and MadGamer – surprised many gamers when they listed the first two editions of the "Shenmue" series on their websites. All of them indicated that these would be released for both the PS4 and Xbox One as a bundle.

This is not the first time that the SEGA classics were rumored to get a remaster. The recent updates, however, seemed to solidify that the speculations may be true.

Two of the retailers specified the price for the bundle. According to Video Gamer, GetGame listed that it would cost 49.99 euros (around $60), while Madgamer indicated it would be priced at 59.99 euros (about $72).

"Shenmue 1 & 2" will reportedly be available by late 2017. The leaks did not include any cover yet.

SEGA has also yet to comment on the rumors, but according to several sources, an HD version of both "Shenmue" games may really be in the works. The game developer can definitely use the hype before the release of its newest offering, "Shenmue III," which is set for a 2018 launch for the PS4 and PC.

Express reported that this will be the perfect opportunity for "Shenmue" players to experience the classics in HD. It will also be a treat for the fans who have stuck with the series since it first debuted in 1999. SEGA may even opt to announce the Shenmue HD remastered collection in the Tokyo Game Show to be held later this month. This may also be another way to celebrate the Sega Dreamcast's 18th year anniversary since it was first released in North America.

In "Shenmue 1 and 2," the games followed the adventures of martial arts pupil Ryo Hazuki as he investigated the terrible murder of his father. The protagonist diligently looked for clues in the open worlds of Yokosuka, Hong Kong and Guilin, and talked to non-player characters to trace what exactly happened the night his dad died.
