'Shenmue' Remake News: HD Remasters of First Two Games Releasing This Year Ahead of 'Shenmue 3'

After months of speculation, the "Shenmue" High Definition Remaster for episodes 1 and 2 are finally coming--at least according to a new report with ties to Atlus USA.

According to Rice Digital, a source apparently told them that the "Shenmue" remasters will make it to the market sometime this year. And instead of having to wait in-between the release of episodes 1 and 2, the publication adds that both episodes will likely see a simultaneous arrival.

A number of the title's fans have been clamoring for remastered versions of the games, especially since a third "Shenmue" game is reportedly planned for next year. Back in September, Sega Europe boss Jurgen Post teased that the video game company was keen on making a remastered version of the "Shenmue" games.

"There is definitely a desire [to go back to our classic games]. Even online, people are constantly talking about products they would like to see come back, and Shenmue 1 and 2 are probably in the top two places," Post told MCV UK. "We are looking into it. It is an old IP, it is a beloved IP – and not just by consumers, but also within Sega, we have people saying that if we could do Shenmue 1 and 2 all over again, we'd definitely go for it."

However, Post continued to say that remastering the game for current gen consoles will require the renegotiation of contracts. And by the looks of things, Sega may have already taken care of that.

In fact, Sega has already registered the domain name, ShenmueHD.com, which is not really a confirmation in itself, but it was certainly enough to send fans into a wild frenzy of speculation.

Right now, since nothing has been officially announced by Sega, readers are advised to take this news with a grain of salt. However, chances are high that remastered versions of the first two "Shenmue" games will eventually be released in the market to promote the new installment.
