'Sherlock' Season 4 Spoilers: EP Posts Sneak Peek

After years of waiting, fans finally got a first look into the upcoming season of the hit BBC series "Sherlock."

It has been a couple of years since Season 3 of "Sherlock," making it a highly anticipated series. Reports stated that the delay for the new season was due to the buys schedules of the two leads, Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman.

However, it was recently announced that production for the series has already began and the executive producer of the series Mark Gatiss gave fans a sneak peek into the set of the upcoming series. Gatiss posted a photo of the set on his official Twitter account.

Unfortunately, the teaser did not reveal much detail about what is to come in the fourth season of the series. According to another executive producer of the series, Steven Moffat, fans will see darker themes in Season 4 compared to the previous season. Moffat also explained that Season 4 will surely surpass the success of Season 3.

As reported by Entertainment Weekly, he said, "We have a plan to top [Season 3]. And I do think our plan is devastating. We've practically reduced our cast to tears telling them the plan ... we're probably more excited that we've ever been about Sherlock."

He stated, "Sherlock series four—here we go again... Ghosts of the past are rising in their lives of Sherlock Holmes and John Watson bringing adventure, romance and terror in their wake."

With that, there is speculation that the villain of the previous season will return to the show. Fans are hoping to see Moriarty back in the small screens. The villain proved himself to be an intriguing character of the series. However, Season 3 ended with what seems to be his death.

"Sherlock" Season 4 is expected to air on BBC in 2017.
