'Sherlock: The Abominable Bride' Special Episode Spoilers: Extra 20 Minutes of Footage With Theater Release

While fans wait for the upcoming season of hit series "Sherlock," details about the soon-to-release special episode have been revealed.

The special episode of "Sherlock" is expected to kick off the new year on PBS. However, it was also revealed that the episode will also be available in theaters, which will feature an additional 20-minute footage. The extra 20 minutes will contain behind-the-scene footage of stars Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman. It will also give fans a chance to look into the set through a tour given by the series' executive producer, Steven Moffat.

Titled "Sherlock: The Abominable Bride," the special episode will run for 90 minutes in the small screens. It will be taking on the original 1892 story of Doyle titled "The Adventure of the Blue Carbuncle." Set in the 1890s, the story will be able a jewelry thief and a plumber.

As stated by PBS, the synopsis of the film readS, "Benedict Cumberbatch (The Imitation Game) and Martin Freeman (The Hobbit) return as Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson in the acclaimed modern retelling of Arthur Conan Doyle's classic stories. But now our heroes find themselves in 1890s London. Beloved characters Mary Morstan (played by Amanda Abbington), Inspector Lestrade (Rupert Graves) and Mrs. Hudson (Una Stubbs) also turn up at 221b Baker Street."

Entertainment Weekly previously reported that Moffat shared details about the special episode. During an interview, he explained that "Sherlock: The Abominable Bride" will pose as a stand-alone film. He emphasized that it has to connection at all to the upcoming fourth season of "Sherlock."

The special episode of "Sherlock" is expected to release on PBS on Jan. 1, 2016. The theatrical version of the upcoming episode will air on Jan. 5 and Jan. 6 in theaters around United Kingdom and United States. Fans may already purchase tickets for the upcoming shows.
