'Sherlock' Victorian Special Rumors: 'The Abominable Bride's Identity To Be Revealed?
The long wait is almost over as fans will finally get another glimpse of Sherlock (Benedict Cumberbatch) in the upcoming Victorian era special.
The special will see Sherlock joining hands with Dr. John Watson (Martin Freeman) in a huge mystery that only the duo can solve. Set in the Victorian city of London in the 1980s, the special promises not only thrill but also fun.
Due to the nature of the upcoming episode, a lot of fans have been speculating for the past weeks that Sherlock and Dr. Watson may portray a gay relationship — a rumor that Freeman didn't really like.
Two months ago, the actor pleaded fans to stop "fantasizing" about a gay relationship between the partners when the episode releases. He told The Sun, "It is possible for people of the same sex to have a deep friendship without being attracted to each other."
Meanwhile another huge mystery that fans have been clamoring over is the identity of "The Abominable Bride." Who exactly is she? The truth is, nobody knows just yet. However, CNET has reasonable suggestion that fans might find interesting.
The outlet explains that fans are speculating Emilia Ricoletti may be the mystery bride since she was shown in one of the trailers donning a wedding gown and a gun. In the new promo photos revealed just this week, a photo of the bride was revealed, however, her face cannot be seen as she covers it with a wide-rimmed Victorian hat.
Emilia is the most favorable character who can take on the title "The Abominable Bride." This could be because of the scene in "The Musgrave Ritual" wherein Sherlock refers to old files and tells Watson, "Here's the record of the Tarleton murders...as well as a full account of Ricoletti of the club foot and his abominable bride."
But, just like every other movie and series, fans will just have to wait until the special releases on New Year's Day, Jan. 1, 2016, to find out who the bride really is.
