'Shin Megami Tensei V' News: Atlus Teases Nintendo Switch Launch With New Trailer

Game developer Atlus has finally confirmed the release of the highly anticipated "Shin Megami Tensei V" with a new trailer.

Back in January, during the first official Nintendo Switch presentation, the game - which was called "Shin Megami Tensei HD" at the time - was one of the titles announced to be arriving for the hybrid portable console. Atlus also then confirmed that the game would be developed via the Unreal Engine 4.

In a livestream announcement on Monday, Atlus confirmed that the game would be the fifth main title installment of the franchise and was now officially referred to as "Shin Megami Tensei V."

"Shin Megami Tensei" is one of the longtime-running franchises developed and published by Atlus. It had its first title debut in 1992 and was popular as a post-apocalyptic, role-playing game. It also looks like Atlus is definitely staying on track with the genre based on the revealed trailer for "Shin Megami Tensei V."

As of now, the first official "Shin Megami Tensei V" trailer only indicated a Nintendo Switch release. However, Atlus has yet to confirm whether the game will be launched exclusively on the said console since that was the strategy they took with "Shin Megami Tensei IV: Apocalypse," which was only made available for Nintendo 3DS players.

Unfortunately, besides the trailer which lasted for over a minute, Atlus has not revealed much details about the upcoming Nintendo Switch game. However, the video teaser showed that "Shin Megami Tensei V" will continue to feature locations based on real-life places in Japan.

At the beginning of the trailer, two characters were seen walking inside a train station in a place resembling Tokyo in the modern times. At one point, they appeared to be playful with one another in a seemingly normal day.

However, the conditions changed as the trailer explored the inside of a tunnel where a bunch of non-human creatures were seen dead. The two characters were then shown trapped in a devastated city, confronted by flying demons waiting to attack them.

Atlus is yet to announce a release date for "Shin Megami Tensei V."
