'Shovel Knight' News: April Release Date for Sony Platforms (VIDEO)
Yacht Games Club will releasing "Shovel Knight" on Sony game platforms this month, the independent game developer tweeted on its social media account over the weekend.
"Shovel Knight," a 2D side-scrolling video game published by Yacht Games Club, will be making its way to Sony Platforms on April 21, including PlayStation Vita, a post on the independent game developer's Twitter account announced Sunday.
Originally released for Microsoft Windows, Wii U and Nintendo 3DS, with Linux and OS X following soon after, "Shovel Knight" made its debut in June 2014 to critical acclaim, receiving nominations and awards for its stunning graphics and design, wide-ranging gameplay, dramatic soundtrack, excellent controls, and engaging characters.
Selling nearly 180,000 copies in the month of its launch in North America, "Shovel Knight" was dubbed one of the best games released in 2014, and "a brilliant homage to a bygone era, yet an equally fresh, captivating and innovative game," an IGN review stated. By the end of 2014, the game had sold over 300,000 copies across the platforms it was available in, making a success of Yacht Games Club first published game title.
The storyline centers on two adventurers, Shovel Knight and Shield Knight who journey the world together until a cursed amulet downs Shield Knight and leaves Shovel Knight stranded outside the Tower of Fate. Shovel Knight then embarks on a quest to defeat the evil Enchantress responsible, battling members of "The Order of No Quarter," with the ultimate goal of rescuing Shield Knight in the end.
With positive reviews giving the game a 90/100 rating on Metacritic, and a 9/10 score on IGN, "Shovel Knight" fans and Sony game console users can rest easy their favorite title will soon become more accessible in two weeks' time.
