Yacht Club Games has announced the long awaited DLC for "Shovel Knight" is scheduled to be released in the fall of 2015.
California-based independent video game developer Yacht Club Games recently released a trailer for "Plague of Shadows," an upcoming DLC for its 2D platform game, "Shovel Knight."
"Plague of Shadows," which will be launched as a free update, will allow players to control one of the games' boss characters, "Plague Knight."
The main character, Shovel Knight, will be fulfilling a quest based on a whole new storyline and will come equipped with explosive weapons geared to alter gameplay and take it to a new level.
Yacht Club Games has also revealed they are planning additional campaigns to feature King Knight and Specter Knight, and a new battle arena in multiplayer mode which will be released as downloadable content at a future date.
"Shovel Knight," which garnered critical acclaim when it was released for PC in June 2014, will also be launched in English and Japanese versions in Japan. There will also be a physical retail release of the game for XBox One, PlayStation 4, Wii U, and Nintendo 3DS that will launch in North America and Europe by October.
The retail version of "Shovel Knight" will include all of the game's released content, including the "Plague of Shadows" expansion pack, as well as a free Challenge Mode add-on that will be launched alongside the DLC.
Earlier in the weekend, Nintendo announced an interactive Shovel Knight Amiibo, the first third-party game figurine to join Nintendo's popular roster. The Shovel Knight Amiibo will be available for preorder beginning November 27, and is geared to unlock some of the 3D scrolling game's exclusive content on Wii U and 3DS.
With the advent of The Shovel Knight Amiibo, it has been reported Yacht Club Games will be developing game content for other Nintendo products.
