'Sicario 2' News: Josh Brolin Describes Sequel as 'More Severe'

The sequel to the first "Sicario" has already been filmed, and one of its cast members recently talked about what fans may expect from the upcoming film. In an interview earlier this week, Josh Brolin, who is set to reprise his role as Matt in the franchise, described "Sicario 2" as "more severe" and "much bigger" than the first film.

The first "Sicario" movie was a drug cartel drama that hit theaters in 2015. While it did not exactly break box office records, it turned out to be one of the best-reviewed films of the year, with many critics praising it for its unique plot. Because of the success of the 2015 movie, Sony did not have a second thought giving it a sequel.

Titled "Soldado," the upcoming sequel is set for release next year. In an interview, Brolin said that at first, he wasn't sure how the film would turn out after reading the script for the first time. However, when he saw the final cut of the film, he thought that it was really a good movie. "I'm really excited about it. I was actually surprised at how good it turned out," he said.

As for what fans can expect from "Soldado," Brolin said the characters and the film itself are going to be "more severe" and "much bigger."

"It's just a bigger scope film. Like I said, when I saw it it was like 'Sicario' felt like a small movie to me, even though it was a very intimate movie. I've always said I don't understand why bigger movies can't be just as intimate, if not more intimate. Why do they have to be less emotional? I think 'Soldado's' a perfect example of that," said Brolin, adding that the sequel, despite being big, is extremely emotional and extremely tense.

"Soldado" is set for release on June 29, 2018.
