Single Mom of 10 Wins SUV While Waiting for Free Turkey (VIDEO)
A single mother of 10 with seven kids still living at home received more than she ever expected when she went shopping for her Thanksgiving meal. Rosa Cotto wound up coming home with a meal and brand new SUV donated by a local dealership.
Cotto has had to rely on public transportation for several years in order to get her family where they need to be. When unable to use public transportation, Cotto had to depend on the kindness of friends to let her take her children to doctor's appointments and other important dates.
A local DJ known as Alex "Big Lip" Chisolm was responsible for nominating Cotto to receive the SUV during a giveaway sponsored by Off Lease Only.
"Her kids play in my program that I coach in, and I would see the way she would struggle day-to-day to get them to practice, having troubles getting to the game, getting to the grocery store, going to work every day at 6 o'clock in the morning, taking public transportation, not able to see her kids off," Chisolm told NBC News.
Making the day even more special was the fact that one of Cotto's sons was available to help deliver the surprise. As Cotto waited in line to receive a free turkey during a giveaway, one of her children got out of the vehicle and handed her the keys to the SUV, which was gift-wrapped with a bow on top. Cotto was reportedly speechless upon seeing her son exit the vehicle and later joked that "Big Lip" had "gotten [her]!"
People have been reacting to the story with amazement and appreciation for all those who took part in the surprise.
"Fabulous! Such a wonderful experience for all involved," Huffington Post reader artist-53 posted. "Bravo to all that identified the need and followed up and made it happen. Very thoughtful and kind."
"I am very happy for her and her family," added YourAnjl. "Just from the article you can tell she's trying to do right by the children."
