'Sleepless Night' US Remake News: Rapper T.I., Delmot Mulroney Join Jamie Foxx in Cast
Earlier this year, it was announced that Hollywood will be making a remake of the 2011 French action-thriller film "Sleepless Night (Nuit Blanche)" with actors Jamie Foxx and Michelle Monaghan playing lead characters. Several other big names in Hollywood joined the growing cast recently as well.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, rapper T.I. or Clifford Joseph Harris, Jr. will play the partner to Foxx's character, Vincent Downs. Vincent Downs is a Las Vegas cop who stole a bag of cocaine from a gang of ruthless drug dealers. Michelle Monaghan plays an Internal Affairs agent who is on the trail of Downs. T.I. will play Downs' still unnamed cop partner. T.I. is known for his work on TV, including "Boss" and "House of Lies." He will also appear in the upcoming Marvel superhero film "Ant-Man."
Delmot Mulroney will play one of the bad guys. He will be one of the drug dealers who will kidnap Downs' son. Together with actor Scott McNairy, who plays the other gangster, their characters will demand the bag of cocaine back in exchange for the life of Downs' kid. Mulroney's most recent project includes the TV series "About Schmidt." McNairy, on the other hand, is part of the TV series "Halt and Catch Fire" and will make an appearance in "Batman v Superman."
Other names mentioned in the report are David Harbour, who will play a still unnamed character, and Gabrielle Union, who has signed on for an unnamed supporting role.
The action-thriller film is being directed by German director Baran bo Odar, with a script written by "Straight Outta Compton" writer Andrea Berloff. Open Road, in partnership with FilmNation, is financing the film's production as well as worldwide distribution. It is set to start production in the next few weeks.
Roy Lee and Adam Stone of Vertigo Entertainment are producers, while John Powers Middleton, also of Vertigo is executive producing with Open Road's Tom Ortenberg and Peter Lawson. The 2011 film's producers, Lauranne Bourrachot and Marco Cherqui will also join as executive producers of the American remake.
The 2011 film was well-received by critics when it came out. Outside of France, it was first shown at the Toronto Film Festival in 2011, and then at the Tribeca Film Festival in 2012.
