'Smite' Closed Alpha Kicks Off, Closed Beta Brings PS4 Exclusives
The popular multiplayer online battle arena "Smite" will be coming to Sony's PlayStation 4 soon. The game is currently in its closed alpha, while a closed beta will start soon.
"Smite's" closed alpha started on Friday, Feb. 19. Hi-Rez Studios president Stew Chisam clarifies on Twitter that the current alpha testing is for a small number of "dedicated" players.
"Smite" closed beta
"Smite's" closed beta starts in March, but those interested in participating can opt-in now. Developer Hi-Rez Studios will send the free invites for the closed beta sometime soon. Smite Community Manager Amanda Erickson clarifies on the PlayStation Blog that a PlayStation Plus subscription is not necessary to play.
When the closed beta rolls out, Hi-Rez will be releasing several new skins that will be exclusive to the PS4. These include the Norse god Odin's "World's Collide" skin, which will be given away as a free reward for players who will link their Hi-Rez PC accounts to their PS4 accounts. Another reward that will be exclusive for all PS Plus members is Kulkulkan's "KuKu4" skin.
"Smite" Founder's Pack
Hi-Rez is also going to make a new skin pack available exclusively during the closed beta period. This is the PS4 Founder's Pack, which includes Ymir's "C4codemon" skin. The pack also features an Ares "Soldier of Fortune" skin, 400 gems, and a key for instant beta access. Last but not least, the Founder's Pack will also unlock all present and future gods in the game. Interested player will be able to buy the Founder's Skin Pack in the PlayStation Store for $29.99.
Participants of both alpha and beta tests will have their data carried over to the game upon launch. Speaking of which, there is no set release date yet for the PS4. Meanwhile, account copy from the Xbox One to the PS4 is not going to happen, but Hi-Rez is "actively working with Sony" to determine if PC to PS4 account copy will be possible.
"Smite," a third-person MOBA, is currently playable on PC and Xbox One. Gamers get to choose from more than 70 gods and other creatures from eight different mythologies worldwide. The battle for world domination is set in six game modes.
