Snapchat Releases New Update Featuring New Emoji and Camera Features
Snapchat has recently released a brand new update which features some unusual emoji rankings and camera elements.
Photo messaging app, Snapchat just received a major update which included new emojis that rate friends according to their ranking, new camera photo editing capabilities, and reminders about friends users haven't been interacting with.
The upgrade features emojis based on a ranking of which friends users have sent the most messages to. A gold heart next to a friend's name is a code signifying that friend receives the most communication, a grimacing emoji represents a friend who has sent a good number of snaps to a users' gold heart contact, and the sunglasses emoji points out a friend who sends and receives a regular amount of snaps from the user.

A smirking emoji represents a contact who has sent several snaps to the user, but whom the user has not sent much communication to, and a fire icon with a number beside it points to a rapid exchange of snaps, called a "snapstreak" in as many a number of days indicated. Meanwhile, a smiling emoji indicates a best friend not on top of the list.
The new emojis are geared at diminishing the "Best Friends" list effect, which fostered much competition among contacts, by keeping private the friendship barometers each user has with the other. The new system allows users to keep track of their Snapchat relationships without the anxiety of their other contacts seeing their emoji rankings.
The update also includes a "Needs Love" reminder for users pointing out friends who haven't received any attention in a long period, and a low-light camera function which allows users to lighten dark photos by clicking the half-moon icon at the left corner of the screen.
The Snapchat app, which initially launched in 2011, has recorded an average of 700 million images and videos sent per day, and 500 million content views as of May 2014.
