SNES Classic Edition News: Wireless Controller Announced By Nyko

It seems Nintendo is ditching the wired controller despite insisting that it adds to the "retro feel" of the SNES Classic Edition console. A new wireless version of the controllers was recently announced by Nyko for gamers who want to have a bit of nostalgia while at the same time enjoying the benefits of modernity.

Dubbed the Super Miniboss, the controllers look just like any other Super Nintendo pad except with an additional turbo button which serves a dual function. First are faster input and a home screen functionality when the button's pushed and then pressing select.

According to Nyko, the controllers can work from up to 20 feet away. The Super Miniboss also comes equipped with an internal battery which is rechargeable via a micro-USB port.

The Super Miniboss is certainly a significant upgrade to the SNES Classic Edition's bundled controllers. It's also a much more ergonomically designed handset than Nyko's Miniboss that Nyko released with the NES Classic Edition earlier this year.

It also doesn't feel like a third party hardware as the button's feel like those from Nintendo's own controllers, minus of course, the wires. With up to 15 hours of battery life, they can certainly put up with even the most extreme retro gaming sessions.

Unlike the Switch's JoyCons, gamers also won't have to break the bank to own Nyko's controllers which costs just $20. The controllers can be pre-ordered at GameStop and Nyko and will ship around the same time as the SNES Classic's launch. Hopefully, Nyko also decides to release bundles of two controllers at a discounted price to entice gamers to make the switch to wireless.

The Nintendo SNES Classic Edition is set to be released on Sept. 29 and will come with 21 classic NES games including "Star Fox 2." The company also announced that it will increase stock shipments for the mini Super Nintendo system.
