Snoop Dogg Changed His Name: Now Called 'Snoop Lion'

Snoop Dogg recently revealed that he had changed his name after experiencing a spiritual awakening while in Jamaica.

This past February, Snoop, whose real name is Calvin Cordozar Broadus Jr., was in Jamaica and during his time on the island visited a Rastafarian priest who christened the rapper with the new name.

"I want to bury Snoop Dogg, and become Snoop Lion," Snoop told reporters during a press conference. "I didn't know that until I went to the temple, where the High Priest asked me what my name was, and I said, 'Snoop Dogg.'"

The rapper continued: "And he looked me in my eyes and said, 'No more. You are the light; you are the lion.' From that moment on, it's like I had started to understand why I was there."

It seems as if Snoop was content with the achievements he had made during his career and was searching for something to reignite his passion.

"There comes a point where you say I done it all, or there isn't much more to do. This was like a rebirth for me. With no disrespect to other rappers, but they can't [expletive] with me in rap ... I've won every accolade you can get in rap, they call me 'Uncle Snoop' in rap," he explained.

This new found name and identity put Snoop on a new path which will keep his old accolades in the past, as he proceeds forward with his new endeavors.

"When you're an uncle, it's time to find something new ... I want to feel like a kid again. I have always said I was Bob Marley reincarnated. I feel I have always been a Rastafari. I just didn't have my third eye open, but it's wide open right now," Snoop added.

Snoop his currently working on a new all reggae album called "Reincarnated." A release date has not been set.
