'Sons of Anarchy' spin-off series news
With the success of "Sons of Anarchy's" seven seasons, fans of the series would be happy to know that it will receive a spin-off show.
Creator of the series Kurt Sutter told Deadline that he has plans of doing a prequel. He stated that he predicts the season will possibly feature 10–12 episodes that begin in Vietnam. It will explore how the relationship of John Teller and Piney began.
He said, "[Then we'll] bring them back to the States and the obvious external dynamics that were going on with the country and the perception of the war and what an odd kind of perception these vets got when they returned home. And then have it be the development of the club, ending before we start to get too close to some of the mythology that's already been established."
The spin-off is expected to center around the Mayans to target the Spanish-speaking market. He explained that the idea of the spin-off came up when he talked to FX executives Eric Schrier. He stated that they wanted to explore the idea of connecting with the Spanish-speaking market, which makes the Mayans a fitting concept.
It was also shared that the series will focus on the subculture of bikers. It will explore the influences of the subculture. Sutter stated that the series is expected to be a contemporary piece set away from Northern California.
As for its connection with the previous series, Sutter stated that it would serve as a stand-alone series. He stated, "It doesn't mean that there couldn't be some cool, ironic crossovers with familiar characters as the series progressed. I wouldn't want to set it too close to the world we already know, and step on that. It would be cannibalizing what we worked very hard to create and I wouldn't do anything to undermine."
