Sony PlayStation 5 Release Date, Rumored To Eliminate CD Drive

The PlayStation 4 has only been around for two years but fans are already looking forward to meeting Sony's next gaming console. According to PS5Playstion 5 website, the successor of PS4, PlayStation 5, is coming some time in the next few years.

There's no confirmed announcement on when it will exactly be launched but the site mentioned that it may arrive in winter 2020 or sooner. The speculation of the release date is based on the history of Sony's previous products and some information and leaks from other sources. There are reports though that it might come as early as 2017. But with PS4 still fresh from release, it's less likely the company will release another one so soon.

Aside from the release date, the specs and features of the next gaming console is also being widely rumored. Christian Today reported that several speculations are currently moving online and the chief among the rumors is that Sony will no longer be putting a gaming disc system. Instead, it will put focus on the generation's trend.

The source detailed that since the trend nowadays in the gaming industry focuses on streaming games, Sony may make their next console purely a streaming device.

If it pushes through, one benefit that users can take advantage of is that downloading games and stream from Steam and other services is more inexpensive compared to buying a physical disc. Another benefit is that there will be room for other components.

But since Sony has not released any official statement, it's best to take this report with a grain of salt. The device is also still far from existence. The source also noted that the Japanese tech giant has been steadily developing components for the next-gen system.

The PS5 is rumored to be equipped with a next-gen Accelerated Processor Unit (APU), which is developed by AMD. In terms of generating capacity, it is also said to have five times that of the current-gen versions.
