Sony Xperia XZ vs Google Pixel: Which Has the Better Specs, Features?
The Sony Xperia XZ and Google Pixel were both released on the market in the latter part of 2016, following the launch of Apple's iPhone 7 and 7 Plus, and they were obviously presented as other options to consider since they had a close price range and equally competitive features and specifications. However, it is still worth asking which between the two will actually stand out.
For starters, the Google Pixel obviously gets the upper hand in terms of operating systems as it was pre-installed with Android 7 Nougat while the Sony Xperia XZ ran with an older Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow. However, the latter was soon upgraded to the Nougat as well.
In the processor department, the Google Pixel gets a tad of an advantage once more. It is powered with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 821 while the Sony Xperia XZ runs with a Snapdragon 820. The former has four cores of 2.4-gigahertz, while the latter has the same four cores with 2.2 GHz power. Meanwhile, both smartphones' screens operate with Adreno 530 graphics processing units.
For the memory specifications, the Google Pixel gets a bigger random access memory capacity of 4 GB while the Sony Xperia XZ has 3 GB. For the internal memory, both have the standard 32 GB variant but the Google Pixel has a larger 128 GB option than Sony's 64 GB. However, also note that the Xperia XZ comes with a microSD card slot to accommodate an extra 256 GB which the Google Pixel does not have.
One of the Google Pixel's selling points is its camera. However, the Sony Xperia XZ is packed with bigger sensors. The Pixel's primary camera measures the typical 12-megapixel component versus the Sony Xperia XZ's 23 MP. It is the same case for the selfie shooters. The Sony Xperia XZ sports a hefty front-facing 13 MP component compared to the Google Pixel's 8 MP.
As for the battery aspect, the Sony Xperia XZ has a little advantage with 2,900-milliampere hour compared to Google Pixel's 2,770 mAh. However, there are reports claiming that in actual performance tests, Google Pixel is said to have performed better.
Based on the technical specifications and features mentioned above, the Google Pixel has the advantage on several areas. However, the Sony Xperia XZ is obviously not trailing that far behind.
Lastly, as for the retail price, the Google Pixel is sold starting at $649 while the Sony Xperia XZ is priced $699.99.
