Sony Xperia Z2 vs. iPhone 5s: Comparison of Specs, Features Review

Many people are going crazy for the iPhone 6, as well as for Sony's brand new Xperia Z3. However, those who are after a major score smartphone wise may want to take a look at both phones' predecessors, the Xperia Z2 and iPhone 5s. With the latest offerings from iPhone and Sony going for not exactly wallet-friendly prices, the Z2 and 5s can give you some of the new phones most sought-after features, at more reasonable prices.

Design:

The iPhone 5s comes with an all-aluminum and glass chassis. It measures 4.87 x 2.31 x 0.30 inches and weighs 3.95 ounces. It's display measures 4 inches with a resolution of 640 x 1136 pixels.

The Xperia Z2 also features a metal and glass design, but is slightly bigger than the 5S. It measures 5.78 x 2.89 x 0.32 inches and is a bit heavier at 5.75 ounces. It's IP 58 certified, so it's water and dust resistant. Its display is bigger at 5.2 inches, with a resolution of 1080 x 1920 pixels.

Features:

The 5S has the Apple 7 dual core processor and runs on the iOS 7 and 8, while the Xperia Z2 is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon quad core processor and runs on the Android 4.4.4.

The Xperia's internal storage is only at 16GB, but it can be expanded through the phone's microSD slot. The iPhone 5s has storage up to 64GB and cannot be expanded.

As for the camera, the Z2 has a 3840 x 2160 megapixel main camera and a front facing camera with 2.2 MP. Meanwhile, the iPhone 5s has a 1920 x 1080 main camera and its front facing cam is at 1.2MP.

When it comes to battery life, the Xperia Z2 trumps the iPhone 5S. The Z2 can give one 19 hours of talk time compared to 10 hours for the iPhone 5s.

Price:

The iPhone 5s 64GB variant goes for $750 off contract, while the Z2 costs $650.
