Sony Xperia Z4 News: For Release in Japan, No Word on Global Launch
True to its "one phone every six months" schedule, the Japanese phone maker Sony revealed its next flagship phone, the Sony Xperia Z4, last April 21. The phone is said to be part of Sony's line of high-end phones, the Xperia Z series.
The phone was initially announced for Sony's home market, Japan. There is no official word if a global launch is coming.
After its reveal, however, some reports came out saying that the new phone barely improved on the features of its predecessor, the Sony Xperia Z3, which was released six months before. A report in Android Central called it "the flagship phone that nobody asked," calling the phone "a bizarre non-upgrade that does no favors for the company or its customers."

Considering that it is part of the company's high-end line of phones, the report says that it was disappointing to note that the new phone only has a few improvements to show for and on some points, are actually downgrades compared to the Z3.
The first notable improvement is the more powerful processor on the Z4 – the Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 processor. This improvement however, according to the report is for naught because Sony decided to lessen the Z4's battery capacity – it now packs only 2930mAh compared to the Z3's 3070mAh. It no longer makes the claim that it has a "two-day battery life," which Sony phones were known for earlier on. Compared to other flagship phones released by other companies earlier in the year, the Z4's battery may not fare well because of its bigger processor, as almost all new phones with higher-end processors had higher capacity batteries.
In terms of camera specifications, the Z4 does not have a new one. It still sports exactly the same camera as the Z1, the Z2 and the Z3, which does not give it any advantage over the new Samsung Galaxy S6 or the iPhone 6.
