Sony Xperia Z6 Release Rumors: Feb. 22 Reveal May Be Unlikely
The Sony Xperia Z6 was previously tipped for a Feb. 22 introduction, but this rumor may be unlikely because Sony may be gearing up to release another unit.
Based on the latest rumors, the Sony Xperia Z6 will not make an appearance at the Mobile World Congress (MWC); instead, the tech giant is rumored to announce a new midrange smartphone called the Xperia C6, according to PC Advisor.
While details about the Xperia C6 are still scant, what is known about the unit is that it is an improvement on the C5 Ultra with curved screen at the edges. Rumors also indicate that Sony might go for a 5.5-inch screen instead of the 6-inch display seen in its predecessor, the report details.
The Xperia Z6 is touted to be one of the major competitors of the Samsung Galaxy S7, which is rumored to be unveiled this Feb. 22.
Another factor that further indicates that Sony will not unveil the Xperia Z6 on Feb. 22 is the release of the new Xperia flagship units in the United States just a few days ago. The MWC may be too early for the introduction of the Xperia Z6, Christian Today reports.
Still, industry followers think that Sony will have a new smartphone to announce at the MWC, but not the Xperia Z6.
Sony will hold a press event at the MWC on Feb. 22. What remains unclear is the subject of the company's important announcement. If it is not the Xperia Z6, then it could be the successor of its Xperia Z4 Tablet.
There are also speculations that Sony will announce something about the Xperia M5 pro-selfie phone that the company unveiled in August last year. The said unit is scheduled to go on sale in the United Kingdom this month.
There is a possibility that the Sony Xperia Z6 will be unveiled around September this year. More details on the upcoming smartphone are expected to surface in the coming months.
