H1Z1 Release Date Confirmed for January 2015: Sony's MMO Zombie Game Almost Here
It has been confirmed by Sony Online Entertainment that "H1Z1," their post-apocalyptic zombie game, will be released on Steam Early Access come January.
The news came from Sony president himself, John Smedley, who wrote about it in a lengthy post on Reddit. He said that the long wait was because he and team wanted to make a good enough game. He also explained that there will be two releases, a more expensive version and the upcoming Steam release.
The Steam release will be available for PCs on Jan. 15, 2015 for a price of $19.99. Smedley said that the Steam release is a fun game with 64 square kilometers of gameplay area to explore, but on the whole, the game is still unfinished.
"The goal here is to let you in early and help us mold it into a game you want to be a part of for quite a long time," he wrote.
As for the more expensive version, more details about it will be announced sometime in the future, but it will offer access to different game mode servers and other specifics.
However, players can get access to these game mode servers even through the normal gameplay on less expensive versions, so players who chose not to buy the higher-priced version don't have to worry about missing out on these features.
Smedley also addressed issues that the "H1Z1" will end up being similar to other undead genre games such as "Day Z" and "Dying Light." He said that while their game is not as "feature rich" or filled with "other cool stuff," they will be presenting a different game with a large scale world that will excite gamers.
Following the announcement, Smedley and the members of the "H1Z1" developing team have made themselves available for gamers via their official Twitch channel.
Smedley is also available for fans on Twitter and claimed he will make further announcements soon.
