'South Park' New Season Kicked Off With a Riot

Trey Parker and Matt Stone's adult animated sitcom "South Park" came in strong with an alleged parody of the Charlottesville riot in the premiere episode of its new season.

In the episode titled "White People Renovating Houses," Randy had an encounter with a number of white nationalists and Neo-Nazi protestors that made him reflect on "what it means to be white in today's society" as he tried to deal with the protestors who were waving tiki torches and confederate flags.

It seems the Comedy Central series will not be pulling any punches as it dives head first in featuring the recent issues for its 21st season. The episode was highly reminiscent of the recent chaos in Charlottesville where a rally involving a group of white supremacists turned violent, killing one and injuring several others.

"South Park" has been known to include controversial issues in its episodes, and speculations are rife that it may feature some of U.S. President Donald Trump's much criticized statements soon. Series creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone recently told The Hollywood Reporter, though, that they planned to stay off of too heavy storylines this installment.

Parker also said they might not bring back Member Berries. As for Cartman's girlfriend, he said they were interested in continuing the storyline. Last season, they made Mr. Garrison a Trump-like character, fully expecting Hillary Clinton to win the elections.

"Last season we really tried to do a serialized thing, and it was just really hard," Stone said. "In some ways it was cool and in some ways it trapped us. The way we do that show is not compatible with full serialization. We're going to do the first show (this season) and maybe don't have to sitcom wrap it up at the end."

"South Park" season 21 airs Wednesdays at 10 p.m. EDT on Comedy Central.
