'Spider-Man' PS4 Gameplay Trailer: Wall-Crawler Will Not Be the Only Character Playable
The teaser trailer for the "Spider-Man" game by Insomniac Games has been released at the Paris Games Week. Now, more details have been revealed by the studio.
In a blog post, Insomniac Games creative director Bryan Intihar explained that Spider-Man will not be the only one playable in the game.
In the "Spider-Man" game, players can also take on the role of his counterpart Peter Parker who has his own set of problems that not even his web-slinging and wall-crawling abilities can solve (and sometimes worsen).
Apart from Peter himself, Mary Jane Watson, a significant character in the "Spider-Man" universe, will also be playable in the game, but only to a certain capacity:
Not only that, Mary Jane has a significant role here too. MJ is a smart, savvy reporter with The Daily Bugle and she's investigating the suspicious activity happening throughout the city. She won't be just a bystander either, so yes, players will even play as MJ for key moments.
In an interview with IGN, Intihar said that while MJ has the look that fans who have been following Spider-Man stories would expect, there will be differences as to how she plays into the world of Peter.
We had to mix things up, and I think MJ's a good example of that character. OK, you see the look, she looks like MJ, she's got the red hair, but her role in this universe is probably a little bit different to what people have expected before.
Aunt May was also briefly shown in the "Spider-Man" trailer. While she will not be playable in the game, she will be a major driving force in the plot as she happens to be working for philanthropist Martin Li, who unbeknownst to her is actually the villain Mister Negative.
Mister Negative and his Inner Demons' reign of terror on New York City pose the most serious—and personal—threat that our Spider-Man has faced in his eight years of web-swinging and crime fighting.
The "Spider-Man" trailer also hints that Miles Morales will play a bigger part in the game than fans anticipated although it will be in the Peter Parker side of things rather than the superhero-centered moments.
"Spider-Man" will be released exclusively to the PlayStation 4 in 2018.
