'Spider-Man' Reboot Director Shortlist Revealed by Sony
Things are heating up as Sony Pictures and Marvel Studios are gearing up for starting on the next phase of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. "Avengers: Age of Ultron" signaled the end of Phase 2.
Next summers' "Captain America: Civil War" is the start of Phase 3, which continues on to "Avengers: Infinity War." Both film's will be helmed by the Russo brothers, Anthony and Joe. The third "Captain America" film however, is also significant because it will be first time that the new Spider-Man will make an appearance.
Sony and Marvel's partnership to bring Spider-Man into the Marvel Cinematic Universe as well as make a new "Spider-Man" film is one that is long-awaited by fans of the Web-Crawler. After two failed attempts with the "Amazing Spider-Man," Sony will be introducing a younger "Spider-Man" in the upcoming "Captain America" film and then will have his own solo film in 2017.

While the choice of actors to play the lead role is reportedly down to two young actors, the choice of director is a different matter. According to a report in Screen Rant, Sony has revealed that they are now choosing among a list of five directors. The report, which also points to a Deadline report as its source, says that the following directors are said to be in the running:
- Jonathan Levine of "50/50" and "Warm Bodies"
- Theodore "Ted" Melfi of "St. Vincent" and "Roshambo"
- Jason Moore of "Pitch Perfect"
- John Francis Daley and Jonathan M. Goldstein of "Audio Tour" and "Vacation"
- Jared Hess of "Napoleon Dynamite" and "Don Verdean"
The Deadline report also reportedly describes the film's "tone," which according to its producers Amy Pascal and Kevin Feige, should be a "coming of age tale" with "humor and emotion, plus all the superhero stuff." An announcement on the choice of director will reportedly be made by late next week.
