Sprint's LTE Network Goes Live in the US
Sprint's new 4G LTE network is now available in Kansas, Georgia and Texas.
Customers who own a Samsung Galaxy Nexus, HTC EVO 4G LTE, or Galaxy S3 can now make the most out of their experiences with their smartphones by being able to connect to networks with speeds up to 10 times faster than 3G in those areas.
The company's LTE network is now available for use in a total of 15 urban areas throughout those three states allowing them to ditch Sprint's less efficient WiMax network. More areas are expected to follow suit in the near future.
Sprint is also planning to ramp up the speed of its LTE network in 2013 in order to make it more powerful than what Verizon and AT&T are currently offering.
In order to compete with those carriers, Sprint needs to have its LTE network available in a lot more areas in the near future.
With the next-generation iPhone expected to be an LTE device, the carrier has to match up to the standard already set with AT&T and Verizon.
The Samsung Galaxy S3 launched in the U.S. this month and is also a 4G LTE device. Anyone who owns the smartphone on Sprint needs to use it with the company's WiMax network. This is a selling point for the other two major carriers, who both have their LTE networks up and running in most areas throughout the U.S.
T-Mobile seems to be stuck in last place when it comes to rolling out its 4G LTE network. The carrier also offers the new Galaxy S3 and has been trying to get the iPhone for quite some time. However, those efforts have been unsuccessful.
