Square Enix, Marvel News Update: Companies Assemble To Create New 'Avengers' Game
After telling fans to stay tuned for an "exciting announcement," Square Enix revealed a short trailer for a new "The Avengers" game.
The 51-second teaser video reveals very few details but definitely hinted at Thor, Captain America and Iron Man's involvement in the game. In the trailer, a woman's voice narrates: "They say the time of heroes is over. That if you're different, you're dangerous. But I know the truth. The world will always need heroes. We just need to reassemble."
With the word "reassemble" acting as a major hint, it looks like the game's timeline will not be far off from where the movie franchise already is.
Alongside the teaser video, Square Enix declared that the "Avengers" game is going to be one of their "multi-year, multi-game" collaborations with Marvel.
For the game's development, Square Enix and Marvel recruited help from video game studios Crystal Dynamics and Eidos Montreal. These studios are best known for creating successful games such as the "Tomb Raider" series and "Deus Ex," respectively.
In a statement, Marvel Entertainment's senior vice president for games and innovation, Jay Ong, said: "By partnering with Crystal Dynamics and Eidos-Montréal, we are now working with two of the industry's most talented and respected game development studios to bring Marvel stories to life in ways our fans have never experienced."
Ong expressed that their collaboration with Square Enix is a manifestation of their effort to "[make] games a key part of the landscape for Marvel storytelling, alongside comics, television and film."
The Marvel Entertainment executive added that to convey their vision, the narrative of their super heroes needed to be matched with the world's best game developers "such as the creative minds at Square Enix."
While the date and title of the game are yet to be announced, Square Enix and Marvel assured fans that the game will carry an original story but with familiar characters and environment.
However, it is going to be quite a long wait as more details are expected to arrive in 2018.
