Square Enix Teases 'Final Fantasy XV' Backstory With New Clip (VIDEO)
Square Enix just released a new clip for "Final Fantasy XV" showing a never-before-revealed backstory for "Final Fantasy XV."
A backstory detailing events that occurred 15 years before the main story in "Final Fantasy XV" was revealed in a new trailer Square Enix recently released.
The cinematic trailer, titled "Dawn" opens with a young Lunafreya under attack by a person wearing what appears to be a knight's silver armor. More armed medieval "knights" on patrol halt 1950s-style vehicles in the rain and search them with their dogs.
Another scene shows Noctis as a young boy sleeping in his father's arms by a car in front of a tall, stately edifice, while King Regis tearfully holds his son close and whispers that he will always be with him.
Square Enix has announced it will be revealing more of the backstory during its live broadcast at the 2015 GamesCom in Cologne, Germany on Aug. 5 at 9 a.m. PDT and 12 p.m. EDT.
In addition, the Japanese game developer has said it will be playing new gameplay footage at the event, which will be live streamed on Twitch.
"Final Fantasy XV" follows the story of Crown Prince Noctis Lucis Caelum, who, after having gained magical powers following a near-death experience, is driven away from his realm when the Niflheim empire invades on the last night of final peace negotiations between the two kingdoms.
Noctis then begins his quest to defeat Niflheim, and wrest control of Lucis' prized crystal from them.
Square Enix has yet to announce a release date for the upcoming action RPG, the 15th main installment in its "Final Fantasy" video game series, and it may do so during the GamesCon live event.
"Final Fantasy XV" is expected to launch on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.
