'Star Citizen' 2.6.1 PTU Patch Notes: 'Mega Map' Now in Effect

The newest patch for "Star Citizen," the upcoming space simulation video game by Cloud Imperium Games, is now available for backers. The game's alpha 2.6.1, which is set to fix several issues and provide new system upgrades, is now ready for the Public Test Universe.

The game "Star Citizen" is still being developed. Cloud Imperium Games, one of its developers, has yet to announce a release date. Currently, backers who purchased the pledge package are testing the experimental version of the game through a temporary access program. The latest patch released, according to iDigital Times, will bring adjustments primarily in Star Marine and Arena Commander. It will also be introducing a new system called Mega Map.

At the moment, Mega Map only supports single player maps, like Hangars and single-player Arena Commander. The developer plans to expand this to multiplayer ones soon.

Meanwhile, some changes in Arena Commander include the decrease in the number of missiles given from pickups and an upgrade on Ace weapons during the Pirate Swarm mode. The spawn rate of pirates is also lessened. There will temporarily be no revenge kills and resurgence awards in this patch and no additional lives in Multiplayer Pirate or Vanduul Swarm. As for Star Marine, extra dialog lines during bouts have been included as well as a new route inside Echo Eleven. FPS weapons have also been improved. Customization of the promised in-match loadout has also been effected. Both game systems now have in-game leaderboards.

In the meantime, a recent interview with Dan Trufin, the lead system designer for Cloud Imperium Games, reveals a lot of insider stuff about "Star Citizen." When asked about its planetary gameplay and survival aspects, Trufin said that they have devised a realistic scenario in the event that players find themselves trapped in the middle of nowhere.

"It won't be like 'Oh, you crashed. You have no water. You're dead!' No, it will take a while. We'll give you ample opportunity of finding something to eat or hunting something. Or stealing some resources from someone else. Or calling for someone to pick you up. But if you're still there after a few days - and not eating, not drinking - you're health will start to degrade," Trufin said in the interview.
