'Star Trek 3' News: William Shatner to Appear in Film
Since the first "Star Trek" reboot, fans have been hoping that some of the original cast members of "Star Trek" would be featured in the new films. Many were thrilled with the appearance of Leonard Nimoy as the older version of Zachary Quinto's Spock in the first two films. And now, it is reported that the original Captain Kirk himself, William Shatner, will be appearing in the third installment of the film.
In an interview with the Daily Mail, Shatner expressed reluctance about sharing details regarding his appearance on the film, given that he has already been told twice not to speak about the movie, but he did admit that he was "very excited" to be included in "Star Trek 3."
"Here's my dilemma, I was cautioned not to speak about this and the next day it was out all over the Twitter," reveals the 83-year old actor. "So I talked about it and then I got another phone call telling me to keep quiet again! All I can say is that I'm very excited about the film."
It is reported that Shatner will play an older version of Chris Pine's Captain Kirk, and the actor was apparently very pleased whenever people would allude to Pine's good looks.
"You know everyone commented on how good looking he is, so by extension that means I am too," he laughs.
Cinemablend reports that Shatner and Pine will share a scene in "Star Trek 3" as Captain Kirk and Spock will be interacting with future versions of their characters.
Meanwhile, director Roberto Orci has not confirmed nor denied Shatner's involvement in the film. However, Orci left a comment on the comments board of Trek Movie, wherein he wrote:
"Not in my interest to confirm or deny anything because it limits my options while maintaining my integrity as a truth teller. The movie is not the movie till it is in the theater. Until then, everything is a rumor," he said.
"Star Trek 3" is slated for release in 2016.
