'Star Trek: Discovery' Cast News, Air Date: Jason Isaacs Signs On as Discovery Captain; CBS Reveals Release Window
"Star Trek: Discovery" has been shaping its cast list for a while. Now, the USS Discovery finally has a captain in Jason Isaacs, who will play Capt. Lorca.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Isaacs' Capt. Lorca will head the the USS Discovery with his lieutenant commander, Rainsford, played by Sonequa Martin-Green of AMC's "The Walking Dead."
Other members of the USS Discovery, formerly known as the Enterprise, include science officer Stamets (Anthony Rapp), science officer Saru (Doug Jones) and Vulcain astrophysicist Sarek (James Frain), who also happens to be Spock's father.
Three more actors were added to the roster last month. Terry Serpico, Maulik Pancholy and Sam Vartholomeos play Starfleet's Admiral Anderson, chief medical officer Nambue and junior Starfleet officer Connor, respectively.
As for the characters who are not a part of the USS Discovery, Michelle Yeoh plays Georgiou, captain of Starship Shenzhou. Shazad Latif, Chris Obi and Mary Chieffo all portray Klingon characters. Latif plays Klingon commanding officer Kol, Obi plays Klingon leader T'Kuvma, who is also Kol's mentor, and Chieffo plays Klingon battle deck commander L'Rell.
The first season consists of 13 episodes and will be run by Gretchen Berg and Aaron Harberts. Bryan Fuller was initially signed on to be showrunner, but he exited the series before production even began.
"Star Trek: Discovery" has had a tumultuous journey, suffering two premiere delays. And while an exact date has still not been set, CBS CEO Les Moonves revealed a potential release window.
"Late summer, early fall we're looking at probably right now...We're not going to rush it in. There's a lot of post production. But I'm very confident from what I've seen so far," said Moonves (via CNET).
The network previously expressed their intent to make sure the quality is up to par, which may be the reason for the many delays. "We've said from the beginning it's more important to do this right than to do it fast," the company's statement read.
In January, an in-production video was released. The clip previewed the costumes that will be appearing in the upcoming CBS All Access series.
