'Star Trek: Discovery' Release Date News: Show's Premiere Delayed Again
News about the highly anticipated CBS series, "Star Trek: Discovery," has been scarce and while it has finally found its way to headlines again, the latest development about the show might not sit well with fans.
CBS president Les Moonves has revealed that the show yet again suffers another delay and that "Star Trek: Discovery" might end up premiering late summer or early fall instead. He explained at an investor conference via Variety that the series entails "a lot of post production."
Despite this, the CBS executive guaranteed with confidence that "Star Trek: Discovery" will be excellent and will be worth the wait. "It's important to get it right, and Star Trek is the family jewels," he explained.
Delays are not always bad, as per former showrunner Bryan Fuller, as they just mean the cast and crew are working hard to make sure the show is of high quality. Such is the case with "Star Trek Discovery."
"We aim to dream big and deliver, and that means making sure the demands of physical and post-production for a show that takes place entirely in space, and the need to meet an air date, don't result in compromised quality," Fuller said in a statement picked up by Polygon early this year when news about the first delay came out.
CBS is intent on having "Star Trek: Discovery" live up to the expectations of fans so they are focused more on making sure it comes out great than releasing it on time but with fault.
"This is an ambitious project; we will be flexible on a launch date if it's best for the show," CBS said last year in a statement obtained by The Hollywood Reporter.
"We've said from the beginning it's more important to do this right than to do it fast. There is also added flexibility presenting on CBS All Access, which isn't beholden to seasonal premieres or launch windows," they added.
The original target premiere for "Star Trek: Discovery" was early 2017. What Moonves said suggests that it will be aired around August at the earliest and September or even October as the latest.
