'Star Trek: Discovery' Spoilers, Cast News: How Will Michelle Yeoh's Captain Philippa Georgiou Return?
Captain Philippa Georgiou died on "Star Trek: Discovery" after the show aired its first two episodes on CBS All Access, but Michelle Yeoh, the actress playing the character, confirmed it's not the end for the Starfleet leader in the series.
Yeoh graced the "Star Trek: Discovery" panel at the New York Comic Con over the weekend. She confirmed that her character will be back and candidly warned Jason Isaacs, who plays Captain Gabriel Lorca, that she will go after him if something happens to her ward First Officer Michael Burnham (Sonequa Martin-Green).
"Star Trek: Discovery" executive producer Gretchen J. Berg also confirmed that Captain Georgiou will return. How this will play out exactly was not detailed but viewers should expect Yeoh in the upcoming episodes.
"You will see more of this woman on this show," Berg said.
In earlier episodes, "Star Trek: Discovery" hinted that Burnham is still greatly affected by her former boss' death at the hands of the Klingons. The usual way shows bring back dead characters is through flashback scenes or dream sequences, but since this is a sci-fi series then anything can happen.
But why would "Star Trek: Discovery" kill off Yeoh's character only to have her back regularly? The actress told CNN that Captain Georgiou's death is an important part of Burnham's story and the purpose of this will be clearer as the episodes progress.
Yeoh only asks that viewers be more patient in watching the first season. Everything on "Star Trek: Discovery" will make sense especially if one has to consider that this is Burnham's journey to self-discovery and redemption.
Meanwhile, "Star Trek: Discovery" might soon get a green light for season 2. Executive producer and co-creator Alex Kurtzman indicated that the early discussions regarding the show's renewal with CBS All Access have been positive.
"Star Trek: Discovery" streams new episodes on the subscription site CBS All Access every Sundays at 9:00 p.m. Viewers outside U.S. and Canada can watch the new episodes via Netflix.
