'Star Trek Discovery': Original Franchise Character Cast

The "Star Trek: Discovery" ensemble just got bigger and much more star-studded with the addition of "The Office" alum Rainn Wilson.

The actor will play the role of Harry Mudd, a character who appeared in the original "Star Trek" series and was then portrayed by Roger C. Carmel.

Mudd is known for being an interstellar con man, who made the lives of the Enterprise crew much more complicated and dangerous in the many times he encountered them.

It is unclear how many episodes of "Star Trek: Discovery" Wilson's iconic character will appear, but fans can bet it will make for an epic appearance.

Wilson is best known for his performance as Dwight Schrute in the cult favorite comedy "The Office," in which he was even nominated an Emmy Award for.

This is why there is greater excitement in his appearance in "Star Trek Discovery." His addition certainly boosts the talent involved in the project.

Wilson will join "The Walking Dead" star Sonequa Martin-Green, who will be leading the "Star Trek: Discovery" cast as the yet-to-be-named lead lieutenant commander.

"Harry Potter" alum Jason Isaacs was recently announced for the role of the captain of the Discovery while James Frain will be there as Spock's father Sarek.

Anthony Rapp will be in "Star Trek: Discovery" as a space fungus expert while Michelle Yeoh will play the role of the Starship Shenzhou captain.

Also starring in the series are Terry Serpico as Starfleet high-ranking official Admiral Anderson, Maulik Pancholy as Starship Shenzhou chief medical officer Dr. Nambue and Sam Vartholomeos as Starfleet Academy junior officer Ensign Connor.

"Star Trek: Discovery" will mark the return of the franchise to the small screen in 12 years following the end of the "Enterprise" series.

"Star Trek: Discovery" will be 13 episodes long and will premiere around late summer or early fall.
