'Star Trek: Discovery' Spoilers, News: Young Spock to Appear? Sonequa Martin-Green Hints On Possibility
Will a young Spock appear in the upcoming series "Star Trek: Discovery"? Sonequa Martin-Green (Michael Burnham) sheds light on the possibility.
The actress spoke with IGN about what fans can expect from the franchise's new show. Martin-Green said that there will be flashbacks to her character's childhood, thus there's a chance of seeing a young Spock in the series.
"There is certainly room for that," Martin-Green said.
Martin-Green's character was partly raised as a Vulcan after becoming an orphan. Spock's father, Vulcan Ambassador Sarek (James Frain), became her surrogate father.
The franchise's more than 50 years of history, however, never mentioned that Spock has an adopted sister. Thus, fans are curious as to how this will play out on "Star Trek: Discovery" without messing up the beloved franchise.
Early reviews from critics who got to see two episodes in advance have generally been positive. Some encouraged viewers to subscribe to CBS All Access, where the episodes will officially stream.
"Star Trek Discovery does the impossible. It's modern and enormous but still fundamentally Star Trek," Jordan Hoffman, a franchise fan who writes reviews for The Guardian, said.
Meanwhile, veteran actor and director Jonathan Frakes revealed that "Star Trek: Discovery" will do an episode focusing on the Mirror Universe, which he will helm. The franchise did similar episodes in the original series and spinoffs "Star Trek: Deep Space Nine" and "Star Trek: Enterprise."
Frakes also stated that the pilot is going to impress fans of the franchise.
"Star Trek: Discovery" will premiere on Sunday, Sept. 24, at 9:00 p.m. on CBS while the next nine episodes will be streaming on CBS All Access in the United States. Netflix, on the other hand, will launch the show by Monday, Sept. 25, in countries outside of America.
Joining Martin-Green and Frain on the show are Michelle Yeoh (Capt. Georgiou), Jason Isaacs (Capt. Gabriel Lorca), Doug Jones (Lt. Saru) and Shazad Latif (Lt. Tyler).
