'Star Wars 8' News: Sequel Is 'Much Darker,' Says John Boyega
Most people, having already watched "Star Wars: The Force Awakens," have started to turn their attention to the next installment in the series, "Star Wars VIII." Actor John Boyega teased a few hints about the movie in an interview.
Vogue published an interview with the actor last week. One of the first questions the publication asked Boyega was how it feels like to finally be able to talk more openly about "The Force Awakens" where he plays a character named Finn, a rogue Stormtrooper turned unlikely hero.
"Yes, at last! … Phew. It feels good," he told Vogue. "But now, we just starting work on Star Wars VIII, the next film, so I'm back to keeping secrets again."
Obviously, the actor will be keeping a tight lip on details about the movie and such but he did reveal the tone of the film.
"It's great. Much darker, but we're very excited," he said.
IGN notes that Boyega's comments actually echo the tone of the original trilogy where "Empire Strikes Back" is the dark middle chapter.
As for Boyega's part in that installment, he said, "My part in the next film will be much more physical so I might be in the gym a bit more."
Boyega has been praised by some people as being "the best thing in the film." His co-sar Harrison Ford, who plays the iconic character Han Solo, has also complimented the 23-year-old actor by saying that he is going to have a "wonderful career."
Recognition for his work does not end there as he has been nominated for a BAFTA EE Rising Star award. Boyega felt flattered with the nomination but said it "doesn't feel real at the moment."
"Star Wars Episode VIII" will arrive on May 26, 2017. Before that, a spin-off titled "Rogue One: A Star Wars Story" is scheduled to release in December.
