'Star Wars 8' Plot News: New Promo Images Feature Ackbar, Hux, Porgs
For the past several weeks, new promo images and clips were released for "Star Wars 8: The Last Jedi," allowing fans to get to know more about the characters who will appear in the movie. Just this week, several new promo images for the film were dropped and offered new looks at some of the characters who were out of the spotlight in the previously-released teasers for the movie—Hux, Ackbar and Porgs.
Fans previously learned through promo images that Rey, Finn and Poe would be back as the main trio. Other teasers that were dropped in the past weeks also highlighted Luke Skywalker, whose role is one of the reasons why fans cannot wait for the movie to hit theaters.
Earlier this week, promo images and Topps trading cards for "Star Wars: The Last Jedi" were released, giving a closer look at some of the new and returning characters in the franchise like Chewbacca and "Star Wars: The Force Awakens'" character Captain Phasma. However, one of the most interesting characters featured in the recent promo images was Ackbar, whose presence in the upcoming movie will reportedly be far more prominent than his role in the previous installment of the franchise.
Another character highlighted in the new promo images was General Hux, the public figurehead of the First Order who faced defeat at the end of "Star Wars: The Force Awakens." In the upcoming movie, the character is expected to push his advantage as the Supreme Leader of the First Order.
Joining Ackbar and Hux—both returning characters—in the promo images are the Porgs, the new creatures that have yet to be introduced in the upcoming installment. Details about these new characters are still scarce, but reports say that their habitat is on the island of Ahch-To, where Rey will train with Luke.
"Star Wars: The Last Jedi" opens in U.S. theaters on Dec. 15.
