'Star Wars Battlefront 2' Latest News: Developers Change Loot Crate System in Wake of Criticism

"Star Wars Battlefront 2" will have a loot box system changed from the beta mechanics by the time the title launches in the middle of November. Electronic Arts looks to have taken criticism from early feedback to mind in making their recent round of updates.

The team developing "Star Wars Battlefront 2" promised changes to the loot crates, and the progression system in general, by the time the game launches later this month. Their blog news update mentioned that they are making these adjustments after they have taken player reactions to their beta version of the game into account.

"A few weeks back, we mentioned we were going to take another look at how the progression system works. After incorporating feedback from the Beta, we're happy to share our plans for launch," the development team said in their update.

Among the other things that EA is changing before the game's launch, there are a few tweaks that look to address the biggest complaints about the random loot drops in the "Star Wars Battlefront 2" beta version.

One of the biggest sticking points is the Star Cards mechanic. These cards are basically the main way for players to get upgrades for their characters and their ships, and they are vital for players' progression in the game.

The beta build of "Star Wars Battlefront 2" locked the Star Cards to random loot drops, and at a low chance of getting one with every box at that. That means that players have to spend hundreds of hours grinding for loot drops to get anything approaching end-game gear, or just buy them using money.

Epic Star Cards, the rare upgrade item that unlocks extra abilities or weapons, will no longer be exclusively available from loot crates after the update. Players will now have the chance to craft them, aside from getting them via micro-transactions or from deluxe editions of "Star Wars Battlefront 2," according to Polygon.

"Star Wars Battlefront 2" comes out on Friday, Nov. 17.
