'Star Wars Battlefront 2' News: New Single-Player Campaign, Tie-In Content With Other EA Games Announced

"Star Wars: Battlefront II" is coming out in a week, giving EA Games a chance to create more hype for the new game before the film "Star Wars: The Last Jedi" hits theaters on Dec. 15.

ComicBook reports that during the video game company's earnings briefing this week, Chief Financial Officer Blake Jorgensen explained how linking events with big movies affects its games positively.

For example, the release of the first "Star Wars: Battlefront" video game in 2015 heavily benefited tying in with the "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" film, which also came out during the same year. The game included a free multiplayer map that takes the players to the planet of Jakku, which was a key location from the movie.

When the sequel game comes out this month, players are going to enjoy free content inspired by the upcoming "Star Wars: The Last Jedi." This was reportedly announced after the latest trailer for the film was released.

Moreover, "Star Wars: Battlefront II" will also have a single-player campaign, something that the original 2015 game lacked, which drew criticisms from players worldwide. The new single-player campaign is said to take place right after the events of the 1983 film "Star Wars: Return of the Jedi," bridging the gap between the original "Star Wars" trilogy and "Star Wars: The Force Awakens."

As for the main narrative, which is a collaboration between LucasArts and EA Dice, it follows and Imperial commander and crack TIE-fighter pilot name Iden Versio. She is said to be fighting Rebels on the planet of Endor when she sees the second Death Star exploding up in the sky. She then escapes and promises to seek revenge on the Alliance for the death of her Emperor.

With these said, it is clear that the game allows players take on the role of the bad guys. The narrative explores a kind of ideology that puts the Galactic Empire on a high pedestal, rather than seeing it as the evil that has been plaguing the galaxy.

Meanwhile, EA Games has announced, in celebration of the upcoming release of "Star Wars: Battlefront II," that players of "FIFA 18," "NBA Live 18," "Battlefield 1," and "NHL 18" will be able to obtain "Star Wars" themed items.

"FIFA 18" players can get their hands on Inferno Squad gear when they log in to FIFA Ultimate Team between Nov. 7 to 28. Similarly, "NBA Live 18" players will also get Inferno Squad content and will be able to customize home and away kits with these, as well as Live Events, from Nov. 7 to 14.

On the other hand, "Battlefield 1" players will get a chance to score a Totokia War Club melee weapon, if they log in starting Nov. 8.

For "NHL 18" players, Inferno Squad equipment will be given away to those who logged into their Hockey Ultimate Team accounts before Oct. 31.

"Star Wars: Battlefront II" will be released on Nov. 17 for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC, which is exactly two years after the first "Star Wars: Battlefront" game came out.
