"Star Wars: Battlefront" Open Beta Release Date Latest: Starts October 8

After the game's closed alpha, its publisher Electronic Arts announced that it will be bringing the game to an open beta soon. Recently, EA revealed that the much-awaited first-person shooter game "Star Wars: Battlefront" will be available for an open beta on October 8. The beta, which will be open to the public, will run for four days, until October 12.

According to a report in Den of Geek, the beta will be open for the PC and current generation consoles, the PS4 and the Xbox One. It will reportedly feature three maps, one for each of the planets found in the game: Hoth, Tatooine and Sullust. Three modes will be available for beta testers and these are the Walker Assault, Survival Mission and Drop Zone modes.

As indicated in the game's blog, the beta test will give gamers a chance to test out the game and possibly identify any bugs. EA also said that any feedback from beta testers will feed into finalizing the game before its release on November 20.

In another report in Cinema Blend, the game's Community Manager Matthew Everett himself announced that the beta test will be open to everyone who wants to participate. And unlike other games where participation in a beta test usually requires a pre-order purchase, the "Battlefront" technical test will be absolutely free. He also mentioned that there will be "cool stuff" happening during the live beta that participants should watch out for. Additional details about the live beta test will be provided in the coming weeks.

In addition to the live beta, the publisher also revealed that Luke Skywalker and Darth Vader will be special playable characters in the game. They are called special Hero and Villain characters but the catch is, they are only playable for a very limited time period only.

Ordinary players, once they locate and get a special item on the game map, will be able to play as Skywalker or Vader for about two minutes. If a player is good, he may be able to extend this to up to five minutes. Once a player takes on the special Hero or Villain character, special Force or Sith powers will be bestowed on the player as well.
