"Star Wars: Battlefront" Public Beta Coming in October
The upcoming "Star Wars: Battlefront" by Electronic Arts is getting a public beta for its multiplayer mode and it's going be open to anyone who wants to try it out in early October, according to a report in The Verge. The beta was announced on the game's official website, although the site was mum about the exact release date of the beta.
According to the report, the beta will be open to players regardless of the platform that they are using. The game is set to be released for the PlayStation 4, the Xbox One and on Origin for PC in November. Ahead of the game's release, players can join the beta which will allow multiple players to go on space battles and ride battle ships, which may include Hans Solo's Millennium Falcon.
The multiplayer beta will reportedly include two missions with a different set of playable characters. One mission is called "Walker Assault on Hoth," which calls for 40 players to play the mission. Among the playable characters here are Luke Skywalker and Darth Vader. The other mission is called "Survival Mission on Tatooine" which features two rebels who need to go through and survive several waves of imperial fighters. Also included in the beta is a new mode that is called "Drop Zone," details of which were scarce. The site however says that additional details will be made available soon.
According to game's website, along with the beta, there will be the "Star Wars: Battlefront" Companion experience which will be available on the site www.StarWarsBattlefront.com. It is actually a strategic card game called "Base Command" where in-game Credits can be earned, which in turn can unlock Star Cards, weapons and other goodies for the "Star Wars: Battlefront" game. The companion also has a tracking application where players, whether they are Rebels or Imperials, can check game statistics and progress, connect with friends and other players while they are playing the game, and share information on their stats and progress in order to make the best matches for multiplayer missions. The companion will be available as an app on the App Store and the Play Store.
As with most beta tests, whatever progress, achievements, characters and character data, etc. that players get during the beta will not be transferred to the main game when it comes out on November 17.
